chapstick vs. blistex

Sun Protection: Blistex wins this for sure. Tough I'm not a fan of sun protection lip balms at all (they feel so nasty you might as well slap actual sunscreen on your lips), Blistex wins this category for it's stay-power in water.

Coloured/Flavoured: No one can beat cherry Chapstick. No one. That is all.

Minty: This is a tough one since I use both as my regular lip balms. Even though the mint Chapstick is hard to find, I'm gonna give it the win because the actual balm is green which is cute :)

Medicated: This is simple: Chapstick is weak in this category. It's as if they replaced the mint label with one that says "medicated". One whiff of Blistex medicated and you know you've got the good stuff.

VERDICT: They're tied 2-2 and I think a tie-breaker post is in order...

Wednesday

Blistex Ultra Protection SPF 30

Pretty good. A little thin, doesn't really feel like there's anything on my lips...which leads to frequent reapplication. Smells decent and has major SPF. I use this before I get in the water as it claims and proves to be waterproof.

MAC Lip Conditioner Stick SPF 15

Love love love!!! Smells like vanilla and moisturizes wonderfully (not to mention the bonus SPF 15). It also has a bit of that lipstick-y smell which I like (I know that's weird). The only downside is that it isn't minty...but I'll sacrifice the tingly-ness for this stuff. ($14.50)

Kimchi Blue

Picked this up from Urban Outfitters a few weekends ago and I kinda like it despite its inconvenient packaging and non-mintyness. It smells and tastes like pink lemonade and gives the perfect amount of colour. I wouldn't use it as my regular because of it gives me sticky fingers and it's not minty.

Saturday

Body Shop Vitamin E Lip Care Stick

One of the better lip balms I've used. Doesn't smell overpowering, colourless, suuuuper moisturizing AND it has SPF 15. A little on the expensive side but you do get what you pay for. ($8.00)

Body Shop Born Lippy

Smells yummy, moisturizes well :) I would never use it as my regular lip balm because 1) you do have to put your fingers all up in it since it's not in a convenient stick form and 2) it's not tingly/minty....I'm sort of against flavoured lip balms (they never seem to get the job done) BUT this has a nice hint of colour, smells delish, and I do use it for the purpose of glossing. Another plus is that it comes in like 6 more scents and flavours. ($8.00 for 0.3 oz)

Chapstick Classic

Who hasn't had one of these? You can never go wrong with the classic Chapstick. I'm a firm believer of "once you go Blistex medicated, you'll never go back" but I still buy these...sometimes in the 12-pack from Costco (cause I go through one thing of lip balm in a few weeks...). My favourite of the 3 is the cherry one because it reminds me of the disney princess chapstick that I used to eat as a kid.

Blistex Silk & Shine

This one is just alright. It feels really thin on my lips and contrary to it's packaging, it doesn't really make my lips look shiny....or feel silky for that matter. One good thing is that it smells really nice (like berries or something), but I'm taking a few stars off because it doesn't really deliver.

Monday

Blistex Lip Massage

Ads for this have been everywhere, so I really wanted to try it out. The ridges probably look a little weird but they actually made my lips really soft. And the actual balm was a bit tingly which I liked. Its also easy to control how much product you want. ($5.00)

Friday

Vaseline Lip Therapy

I recently bought this in London, I've never seen in here so it was pretty exciting.... before discovering Chapstick, I used this stuff like it was life support. Its texture is hard to describe...slick(?), not sticky but because it's petroleum jelly, it moisturizes reeeeallly good. Don't let this melt or you'll be very sorry. Again, I've never seen it where we live so I don't know what the prices are, but you can get a little tub of this for $5.00 I'm sure.

Chapstick Ultra SPF 30 & Nivea Sun Protect

I didn't like these sun protector ones either. It's nice that they have added sunscreen but a lot of other lip balms offer some sort of sun protection too...These ones have a VERY odd taste (even if you're not purposely eating your lip balm the taste creeps into your mouth), it's sort of bitter...nasty. Also, the Nivea o
ne turns my lips purple :| If you're gonna be outside on one of those days where there's not a cloud in the sky, this may be for you...you'll just have to ignore the bitterness! (Both about $5.00)

Thursday

Mac Tinted Lip Conditioner

Perfect smell, perfect colour, makes lips pretty soft (not the most AMAZING hydrating thing ever). Unfortunately you do have to put your pudgy little fingers in the tub before it goes on your lips...but the lovely scent makes up for it....the price doesn't. ($14.50)

Body Shop Mint Lip Care Stick

One of my all time favourites. I love that it's not sticky and super hydrating AND is minty and tingly which I love. It's about 3 times the price of your regular drugstore chapstick but it works a lot better...it also raises awareness for domestic violence (I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars because the price is slightly outrageous...). (2 for $15.00)

Blistex Medicated

Possibly one of the best lip products I've ever used! I pretty much only have to put it on three times a day. The colour in the dispenser is a strange yellow (but it doesn't show at all on your lips) and it smells sort of minty (with a hint of cough syrup) which might turn some people off, but I don't mind it at all. I've already bought this one twice in a row which I rarely ever do. (roughly $4.00)

Burt's Beeswax

I personally did not care at all for this lip balm and I've only known of one other person who agrees with me (everyone else seems to love this stuff!). It feels really heavy and actually makes my skin peel....I was really disappointed because there's been so much positive hype over it and it just didn't deliver. It might have to do with the fact that it has a wax base while I prefer petroleum based products. ($5.00)

Kiehl's Lip Balm #1

I bought this a while back at Holt Renfrew and was pleasantly surprised. I normally go for lip balms that are dispensed in stick form instead of in a tube or tin (mainly because they're more convenient and you don't have to touch your mouth with your dirty little fingers) but this one was so moisturizing that I didn't even mind....I got the one with a reddish tint which was really pretty and not overpowering. ($7.00, $7.50)
